How to replace iPhone OS 3.0 beta bricked iPhones

I came across a very strange discussion thread on Macrumors; it’s about Apple Store not willing to replace OS 3.0 beta bricked iPhone. Why strange? The device is said to be a registered device and the commenter a registered developer and most of all the device is still covered under Apple warranty.

bricked-iphoneWhat would you do if you were that person? Downgrade the device to 2.2.1? With an unresponsive home button, it’s unimaginable to put the device in DFU mode to downgrade. Yell at the employees? It won’t help. Or the best solution, use the device as the costliest Apple supplied paper weight?

This person was wiser than all of us. He heeded the suggestions given by other commenters, went to another Apple Store and got the device replaced.

The smart question that he asked to the forum and to the Apple Store employee was “So does this mean that by paying to join the iPhone developer program and installing beta 3.0 on my phone I invalidate my iPhone Warranty?”

The reply was and is “no.” Good that he was a registered developer.

Now for you, who are not registered developers and are planning to test OS 3.0 beta on your devices, you might brick your phones forever without the chance of getting it replaced.

Better be good boys and wait for the official release. It is just days away now. For those of you who have bricked devices, try lying to Apple Stores that your device is a registered one and you are a registered developer. That’s a lie, anyhow.
