Mini Golf Ace from three-2-one GmbH: iPhone game review

mini-golf-ace1If this is real golf I am sure I would be able to beat Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino or any names that you can imagine, but the whole business would be damn boring and dull. Mini Golf Ace from three-2-one GmbH is a golf game featuring 18 hole mini golf that gives a quickie kind of golf experience right on the iPhone and iPod touch. The best deal about this simple game is that you can play wherever you are and whenever you have the mood. You don’t need clubs, you just need your finger and don’t need gloves and balls too. You can play the game alone or call your friends to join you in the challenge. The lawn is nothing of a fancy but is beautifully displayed in 3D. Some of the lanes look pretty tough and the whole challenge of the game lies in mastering the strokes and negotiating the curves in each of the game plays in as few hits as possible. As is the simple rule, your sole aim is to hit the ball into the cup. You’ll be applauded if you are able to put the ball in one shot, it’s not easy though. You have six hits in each lane to pass the test. Hitting the ball is simple, but putting it into the hole at the far end is hmm a bit hard. Once you launch the game, you just need hold down the ball, a circle with an arrow pointer would appear on the screen, there you need to drag your finger to enlarge the circle to give the required speed and release to hit it toward the hole. Got it? Sounds simple right, but is not actually. If you hit too hard the ball would bounce right out of the lane or would bounce back to the same spot from where you launch. With six tries in each lane I was successful in scoring in most of the lanes, there is some kind of satisfaction and addiction in that. However, after playing for a while I always feel frustrated. It is somewhat straining tilting the device forth and backward to view the course and find the hole when the ball landed in some odd corner of the course. One trick that makes me want to go back to this game is shaking the iPhone to put the ball into the hole when it is very near the hole, which otherwise would require another stroke to actually put it in.
