Apple recently announced that 5.2 million iPhone 3GS units have been sold since the day of its launch. Only 18 countries out of the total of 80 where the iPhone 3G is available got the iPhone 3GS. The total sales figure implies that the company is selling 57,000 iPhone units everyday.
At that sales pace, we can understand that we would soon be facing shortage of the iPhone 3GS. Peter Oppenheimer, CFO and Senior VP hinted the company is finding it hard to keep up with the demand of the iPhone 3GS: “We are currently unable to make enough iPhone 3G S (phones) to meet robust demand, and we are working to address this.”
Chief Operating Officer, Tim Cook has the same to say about the iPhone 3GS supply:
“The iPhone 3GS is currently constrained in virtually every country that we are shipping in, and so the demand for it has been very robust, and I think it speaks to the great product that it is, and we are working very hard to fill that demand.”
All these reports brings us to the possible delay in the launch of the device in other countries where Apple fans are eagerly waiting to get their hands on the yet faster iPhone. Tim Cook was unable to tell when these countries would be getting the new 3GS and also when the fast drying up iPhone 3GS inventory would be filled up.
We have an iPhone 3GS situation ahead. Rush out and grab one if you are planning to purchase one. The shortage afterward won’t be some kind of a short term situation.
