Classics on the iPhone for book lovers and avid readers
When I came across this application, I felt like giving a whoop of joy. And I won’t be surprised if it is echoed by many others. For those of us who love to read, for those of us who want to read, and also for those of us who don’t read, discovering Classics is a Eureka moment.
Guaranteed, there is no other unadulterated feeling quite like thumbing through a well-worn book and poring through the pages. But when you are on the go and when you don’t have the said book, this comes as the next best thing. And believe me, it is no small consolation.
For Classics comes as a ‘tactile experience’; I’m guessing that’s developer language for saying hands-on experience, for you can flip the ‘book’ like the real thing. True to its name, the application is a collection of literary classics, right from Austen’s Pride and Prejudice to Stoker’s Dracula.
The bookshelf interface looks neat and uncluttered, and the books are easily identifiable. This is a great improvement from having to rummage around looking for that elusive book in your room, and trying to remember where you last put it down.
Give a little tap on the book to open it, and read to your heart’s content. To turn the page, do just as you would a real book and flip it. If you are interrupted or have to go off doing something else, a satin bookmark ensures that you don’t lose the page where you stopped. Dog-eared pages are so not tech-savvy!
The ‘home’ and ‘chapter’ options at the top of the page let you do just that; go back to the main home page, or to the list of chapters in the book. The page flipping sounds are subtle enough, but you if you want complete silence during your reading sessions, you can turn it off on your iPhone application settings.
Classics promises new books with every free update so don’t worry if you exhaust your current stock. This application will ensure that you are book savvy, just as you are techno savvy with your iPhone.
