It’s plenty of thrills with Game Of Da Dead on the iPhone
First and foremost, we shall not get into a discussion of whether zombies are dead or living creatures, and whether we should kill them. We will leave that for another day when we can also ponder on why we save monsters in some games. Instead let us play Game Of Da Dead in the true spirit of gaming and shoot them all, cos they are the enemies here.
We start out on a planet called Herba, which is the first of five planets that we have to conquer. Our mission is to protect the humans, obviously by destroying the zombies. There is a turret in the middle of the screen that does all the shooting, and that is also where the humans head for protection. You can turn the turret with the help of controls at the right of the bottom screen.
The zombies come from all sides in random order, so it will be wise to know what weapons we have, and how we can use them. To use the rocket launcher, press down on it to see the distance of the rocket, and then fire. The same goes for the machine gun too.
You also have mine power; to plant them tap twice on the ground, and watch as the zombies walk upon them and go up in mine glory. I liked the seeking missiles, but unfortunately they are in short supply. You simply need to tap on the zombie that you want to destroy, and the missile it with a bulls eye. The good news is that you can get more of these missiles, plus more power ups which pop up on the field. You can collect them by dragging your finger from the turret to the power up.
The power ups are quite varied and help us in a number of ways. Perhaps the variety could also account for the fact that it’s difficult to differentiate between them, or maybe it just looks a tad small on the screen. Well, I won’t complain much as long as they do the job. There are the bonus points, the double points, extra life, human shield and human speed. I believe they are quite self-explanatory so I won’t elaborate on them.
There are also power ups to help you increase weapon strength and speed up the turret rotation. The shock wave paralyses all the zombies unfortunate enough to be in the area, and the air strike annihilates them all.
There are three modes; easy, normal and hard. To unlock each, you need to master a certain mode on another planet.
Game Of Da Dead is pretty exciting, though I think a few snags could be taken care of. Like, for example, the texts on top of the screen mentioning the number of lives and all that info, well, that could be more visible. I’ve already mentioned about the power ups. Also, it would make our lives a lot easier if the turret didn’t have a separate control. But then, we are up against zombies who are dying a second death, so let’s make it easier for them.
