As corny as it sounds, I am truly charmed by this new application from Mind Juice Media called Charmed. At first glance, it doesn’t look much different from other Match 3 puzzle games. And then I took a closer look and saw the big difference; when the device is rotated, the charms also rotate with the change in gravitational direction. That adds a total new feel and dimension to the game.
Some features of the game play remain the same as in typical Match 3 games. Longer matches score more points. However, the objective in this game is to clear all the charms placed on the gold tiles. Once that is done, we move on to another level. We need to clear them all before the timer runs out on us.
The purple blocks remained fixed, so they help in arranging charms. As the charms can’t move past them, empty spaces are created. Charms can be pushed or rotated into these empty spaces.
An added feature is the freeze power meter. This comes into play when we match 3 or more snowflake charms. The more the matches, the longer is the freeze time. When we use the freeze meter, we can skip the ‘match’ rule and swap any two pieces. Gravity and time are also frozen.
If we can’t see any possible match, we can use the hint option. And if we want things real easy, we can set the options to auto hint, and have handy help throughout the game. Sometimes simply rotating the device makes matching charms as they fall into the empty spaces, so it is a good idea to keep rotating.
Charmed has great graphics and sounds that make for fun game play. The levels get progressively more difficult with more gold tiles to clear. If you want to check out the lite version to test the waters first, that is well and fine. But I think that it is well worth the $2.99 price tag attached to it.
