iTunes 9.0 social networking almost invisible feature
True to the pre-Apple special music event rumors and expectations, iTunes 9.0, iPhone OS 3.1, iPod touch and iPod nano with camera were announced on that lucky Wednesday.
With iPhone OS 3.1 Apple added some handy features and we also got bugs, too as usual. iTunes 9.0 brought a bunch of new features too, but while talking about major features, most of us didn’t care whether the social networking capability was added in the update.
Apple did integrated the social networking feature in the update, which I seriously feel is placed in a corner where no one would ever notice. This is a feature supposed to enable you to let your friends know about an app/game/podcast/TV show/songs in iTunes that are interesting via mail, Twitter or Facebook right from iTunes. The idea is pretty smart!
However, the implementation isn’t as smart as the idea. You’ll find the link to Tweet or Facebook not in the main page of the application, song, movie, etc, but in a very odd place.
Search for an app or game and in the search result page you’ll find a small down arrow mark beside the Buy App/Get App button. Click on the arrow, the options to tell a friend, copy link, share on Facebook, share on Tweeter pops up.
The social networking links are not provided even in the grouping of apps according to categories or ranking. That’s the social networking feature Apple offers in iTunes 9.0.
The link ideally should have been placed in the main page of the application or game. What do you say?
