Practice your shots with Volley on the iPhone

volleyWhen we picture a game of volleyball, it is most probably of a grueling game with rippling muscles and smart moves. The visual of two round bobbing heads hitting a ball with their ‘heads’  may not be exactly what we had in mind. But the fun is no less, as I discovered when I played Volley from Tapelicious.

It is a one on one game between the player and the comp. The controls on the left side bottom are for sliding back and forth. There is a separate control on the right for jumping. The job is to place the player under the ball and volley it back to the other player. The game might sound simple, but it can be made exciting when we try to trick the other player with our moves and hit the ball back where he least expects it.

The one who manages to throw the ball out of the opponent’s reach gets a point. Whoever wins five points first wins the round. There are 16 levels of volley play that need to be unlocked in order to play them. The levels don’t seem to be all that much different from each other in terms of difficulty. The good news is that once we have unlocked them, we can go back and play those levels anytime we want.

It would be nice to have a personal score board history as well as a score comparison with others. After all, sports have a lot to do with having a competitive streak. The game also comes at $2.99; that is a tad more expensive than other games in the App Store, so you might want to think twice before you buy it. But inspite of that, Volley is good game play for those moments when you simply want to while away the time. So the next time boredom strikes, it’s serve, hit and volley!
