About Dev
Tell us a little about you, and your current company.
My name is Owen Hunte, I’m Trinidadian-born but moved to the UK over 20 years ago and I’ve started Appnoose Ltd to develop Apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Appnoose is a think tank really. I don’t actually programme myself, I come up with the application concept and then relay them to my designer and programmer who are based in Belarus and Austin,Texas respectively. I’ve never actually spoken to either of them on the phone. This whole app has been designed and tested via email. Weird huh? Appnoose comes from the tag line “Hung Up On Apps”
About your background: What did you do before taking up iPhone development?
I’m a music producer/writer/remixer - mainly Urban Pop and Hip Hop, I still am although it’s taking secondary position while I develop this company and its products. If you play EA Sports Games - Fight Night Round 3 and NBA Live 07 you’ll know my music. Crook Dancin’ and Get Them Hands Hi respectively. I’ve also got Get Them Hands Hi into American Pie 6 and a track called I Am What I Am into a new film called Mother and Child with Samuel L Jackson plus I’ve have a lot of music placed in TV like Punk’d, Pimp My Ride, The Osbournes, Funk With Funk Master Flex, Hey Paula plus a whole bunch of other shows.
About Work
What apps have you developed so far? Tell us about your apps/games in brief.
ITGO Interval Trainer GO is my first App out the gate. Its the only one completed so far. I’ve got three or so more ideas that I’m working on but I’m not sure which one to go for yet. They’re not gonna be all health and fitness apps. I have a game and an entertainment idea but I need to find a programmer who’s really good with sound. I want to concentrate on making ITGO a success then move onto the next one. I don’t really have brain storming sessions. Ideas just come to me then I go and research them to see if they’ve already been done and if so, how well. Take ITGO, I got the concept before I saw what else was in the app store, because I used interval training as part of my 50 pound weightloss regimen, started developing it and then when I was nearly done I looked at the competition. I saw that everything else sucked so I continued with the development.
How long have you been developing for the iPhone platform? Tell us about your overall experience developing for a platform owned by Apple.
I’ve been working on this App and my other ideas for about 4 months. Actually I had an idea before the SDK was released in 2008 and got a proposal together but some guy wanted me to pay him $50,000 to develop a simple app.
Apple the company, is meticulous and amazingly organised. My two favourite companies are Google and Apple..lol..
Any exciting stuff you are working on? Give our readers a hint of what to expect from you next.
I can’t really say other than one’s a novelty game that noone’s quite been done yet, and the other has been done, but differently to what I have in mind..
Do you develop for other platforms? How do you compare the iPhone development platform with other platforms?
No, although I did Fortran 77 back at University…lol .. I have a Physics with modern Acoustics Degree. I did some flash but not proper development. I want to concentrate on the macroscopic concept.
Tell us something about how users are responding to your apps. What’s the most flattering comment or the weirdest you’ve received?
It’s only been out for less than a week and the sales are going well considering the marketing that I’ve planned and am implementing hasn’t really kicked in yet. The most flattering quote so far is from iphonefootprint.com, “Yes! ITGO-Interval Trainer GO is the best fat burner app we have in the App Store.” but the comments in the app store are coming through as well. Plus I’ve got more reviews on the way.
About the App Store
Name some apps/games you consider are cool, excluding the ones you’ve developed. What makes these apps/games stand out?
My fav fight game is iFighter. I had the free version then bought the upgrade which is better, the free version was too hard! My 6 year old son plays all the games on my phone, I only play about two games. I usually play Checkers by Optime Software against the computer while Im in bed last thing at night to relax.. I’ve also been using AccuWeather during the summer but now the weather sucks all the time in the UK this time of year, there’s no point..lol.. That T-Pain app looks dope too but I haven’t got it yet.
Any message to your fellow developers?
Stop making Fart Apps, 2. Stop spamming the App store and Apple review staff with rubbish Apps and multiple variations of the same thing and also because the market is truly crowded now, concentrate on making quality Apps. Without trying to sound like a fanboy, everything about Apple is quality so I think our Apps should reflect the class that they exude. I mean would you build cheap parts for a Rolls Royce?
