Buying an application like Skeleton Key is as good as unlocking the key to an addictive game. For all puzzle game enthusiasts and even for those who are not, this game is a must-have on the iPhone.
There are unrevealed treasure boxes that need to be unlocked using the right moves. It is easier said than done, for the way to reach them is tricky and needs a lot of thinking and strategizing. The moves sound simple enough; left, right and down on the screen by swiping, but the treasure lies in knowing where to move. A wrong swipe and we could well land up in a tight corner. All the keys move with a single swipe, so we need to watch out on every side.
However, when the keys get stuck, there is a way out by shaking the device. This action restarts the level, but it also takes away one of the three lives. And though we can take all the time in the world to make our moves, we need to make them count, because each level has a limited number of moves. There are 100 levels, so that’s a lot of treasure boxes to unlock.
Skeleton Key has easy, medium and hard difficulty modes, and the number of moves allowed in each level differs according to the mode. There is another twist added in to make the game play more interesting. The doors can be opened by moving a key over them, but while it opens all the closed doors, it also shuts all the open ones.
The score is calculated according to how many moves are left over after completing a game, with one move accounting for one point. Hoard these points up, and when it reaches 30 points, an extra life is added. If we continue with a game after we’ve lost all our lives, our entire score goes down the drain.
Like all thoughtful game developers, Insurgent Games gives the option to play our own music while playing Skeleton Key. The format is simple and there may be no engrossing plot to carry us through the 100 levels, but the game sure keeps us thinking and having fun, as all good puzzle games are wont to do.
