When an app tells us to Wisen Up, we would be fools not to realize that we are going to be bombarded with information. There is a lot of that happening and more; the ‘more’ part includes 25 personality quizzes that is going to make us get to know us better. Hail narcissism!
The quizzes range from soul-searching ones like ‘Can the devil buy your soul?’ to wacky ones like ‘What fart are you?’ and to simply inane ones like ‘Are you Tom or Jerry?’ The rule here would not be to take these quizzes too seriously, but with a dose of humor. And anyways, if we depended on such quizzes to analyze our personality, we probably need to make a pit stop at the shrink’s office.
I’m wondering if a doctor developed this application. A glance at the range of topics that are intended to wisen us up will certainly vouch for my theory. There is even a doctor exam, for sweet wisdom’s sake!
But thankfully, it is not some boring long-winding lecture that we are looking at, but a series of funny and entertaining information. For instance, there are medical snippets that we never knew about, as well as bust-ups of some myths. The section on weird and incurable diseases made my jaws drop in wonder. Have you ever heard of the Jumping Frenchman Disorder? You will learn about it and more on Wisen Up.
Then there are sections on ancient cures, and answers to general bodily symptoms. The amazing body facts should also make us look at our bodies with new found respect and awe. While at it, check out the first aid mistakes that we often make; and to think that I once placed my hands on the freezer when I had a burn on it!
All the sections are presented in a sort of circle that you can turn with your finger. The graphics are pretty cool, especially the cartoonish drawings. Coming back to my doctor theory, Wisen Up also has a section on the many different types of doctors, some that we never knew existed.
The best part about Wisen Up is that it doesn’t sound preachy about dishing out all the information. All the facts are presented in a very humorous way, and in more of a did-you-know format. You can share all the facts and quiz results with others on Facebook or through email. And do I feel wiser after checking out this app? Oh yeah, even though I failed the doctor test, I found out that I am a Jerry. Now that’s something I never knew!
