The classic arcade game DollGrabber is here courtesy O.A.T Mobile. And it works beautifully. All the fun elements are here; the colorful dolls, the crane, the music, and yes, lots of luck and skill.

Let us just have a run-down of the action again. I must say it is amazing how the feel of an arcade game has been so well adapted to the iPhone and iPod Touch. To start the game, we have to insert a coin in the slot machine. We can control the crane and go in all four directions with the help of buttons at the bottom of the screen. After we have chosen the doll that we want to grab, we can touch the Go tab, and the crane swoops down.

We get five attempts in a game, and a bonus game if we can score more than 30 points in a single game. A fun element in DollGrabber is the Winnings feature where we get to display the different types of dolls that we have won. The high scores are also recorded for posterity.

Another very arcade-like feature about the game is the music. It is something that we would expect to hear in a game arcade or at the fair. It adds to the feel of the game play, but if we feel like we can do without it, the mute option is at hand. And if we get interrupted while playing, a double tap on the screen pauses the game.

We would think that there would be not much challenge in playing a simple game like this, but it is not so. It is quite tricky controlling the crane and takes skill in positioning it. And yes, a little bit of luck kicks in, and it is always fun to see if the claws will come up with a doll or empty-clawed.

The only negative point I’d point out is the rather steep price. If the developers could come up with more features, it might be more worthwhile. But even then, I’d say go grab this game for pure arcade fun.
