Pogg is a delightful game on the iPhone

poggIt doesn’t get any cuter than this, and this is called Pogg. He is a green alien out to put all the kids under his spell. Ricky Vuckovic has come up with this brilliant application where kids can have fun with Pogg and learn new things along the way.

There are two modes, both with their own appeal. In the first, we can choose the ‘What should Pogg do now?’ option; just type in a word and touch the Go button. And then watch as Pogg acts out that word in a short movie clip. I especially liked the way Pogg dances. What can possibly get cuter than a green alien in a pink tutu? But there is more to this mode than just the visual treat. Kids can practice or learn new words by typing them in. The Spelling Mode also comes with a Random button which randomly selects any of the movie clips starring Pogg.

The second mode called the Picture Mode displays all the clips as thumbnails on the screen. The word which Pogg acts out is written below it, so kids can learn to spell them as well as associate the word with the action.

The animations in Pogg are a delight. One thing I really liked about this application is that it is presented as a game, so kids don’t have to use it as a learning tool, and yet they can learn so much from it. There are 30 different animated clips at present, and it would be nice to see more from Vuckovic.

And though this game is marked for kids, I loved going through it and checking out all the animations. It is without doubt one of the best games for kids I have seen in the App Store. It is creative and useful, and just plain fun.
