DropZap has a twist in store for us on the iPhone
I can’t exactly pinpoint what Amir Michail is doing, but whatever it is, he is doing it right. There is something incredibly addictive about his game DropZap. Like he says, it is somewhat like Tetris and Drop7, but his version has a feature thrown in that makes it a different game altogether.
DropZap has squares of six different sizes as game pieces. As each piece comes up, we can drag and drop onto the column that we want to. When we do that, it causes all the squares below to drop one size, and also all the squares in the same row. All the sizes have different colors, and the smallest one which is colored red disappears when a square is placed in the same row or column it is in.
The really cool bit are the chain reactions; at times placing a square can trigger off a chain reaction as everywhere game pieces shrink and disappear. It’s as if we have released some kind of magic bomb; the effect is pretty much the same. However, if we fail to shrink and keep clearing the squares, the game ends for us as they go over the top.
There are four game modes with slight variations in DropZap. The Standard and Relentless modes both do not require quick action time, the difference being that the former is level-oriented. The Action mode has levels as well as requires us to react quickly. The Relentless Action mode needs us to make our moves fast, but does not have levels.
At the end of every game, we get to see our score, plus how we performed in comparison to our previous score in the same mode. It is not the best-looking game, but the game play is interesting and keeps the player gripped. It is one of those games that we keep on playing saying “Just one more game” for a long, long time.
