WordGlide is an innovative way to add new English words to our vocabulary. Instead of searching through tons of words or leafing through a dictionary, the words glide across our iPhone and that’s as easy and simple as it gets. To know the definition of the word, we just have to touch it and it will pause and display the meaning.
If we want the definition to freeze on the screen a little longer, we can do that with the Pause button. And then we can get on to other words by tapping on the same button to resume it, or use the Fast Forward button to quicken things up.
Since it not often possible to remember everything just by reading them once, we can add words that we like to our Favorite Words list. This way, the words in the list will turn up more frequently on the screen, enabling us to remember it better. We can edit the list and remove words when we are done with them.
If the definition itself has some words that we don’t know, we can select it to know its own definition. The original word comes up when we are done with it. In this way, we can go into as many levels of words as we want.
WordGlide boasts of a collection of more than 150, 000 words, so that’s quite a huge English lesson coming our way. The good news is that we don’t need to be logged into the internet to access this data base, for it all comes pre-configured.
WordGlide uses the orientation and shake features of the iPhone too. We can view the screen in either portrait or landscape mode, and shaking it clears the screen of a definition.
To aid the learning process more, there is an audio button which when tapped pronounces the word whose definition is being displayed. The settings button at the bottom right of the screen makes life easier too. We can control the speed at which the words glide by, the duration of the definition’s presence on the screen, the font size, and more.
Though the developer created WordGlide to guide for users whose first language is not English, it does not restrict itself to that function. There are so many words in there that there is something new for everyone. The graphics make the application a delight to use. This one glides easily into the useful apps list.
