BATAK Duel with the Kardacks on the iPhone

batak-duelBATAK Duel fast-forwards us into the year 2462, where we are all prisoners of a wicked race called the Kardacks. Being enslaved is horror enough, but we are further subjected to playing the fatal Batak Duel Game as entertainment for our captors. The award is freedom, but failure will send us into the cobalt mines of Dedinus to work there forever for the Kardacks. The thought is enough to make me shudder, so I set forth into the game to see how I can escape their dreadful grasp.

I figured that maybe the game with the word ‘duel’ had something to do with swords, or some sort of physical sport. Instead, it is more of a reflex-challenge game, with a need for highly skilled hand-eye coordination. There are ten opponents all lined up to duel with us, and naturally the game gets tougher as they become more and more menacing.

There is a Practice Mode that we can go through to familiarize ourselves for the tournament. The game play is quite simple, and it doesn’t take an Einstein to figure it out. And there are the helpful hints that come up every now and then during the tournament to help us out. What we have to do it to strike out the white targets as fast as we can within a time duration of 60 seconds. Each successful strike fetches us one point. If we are able to beat the current opponent’s score, we progress on to duel with the next opponent up the ladder.

There are twists in the game play to keep it interesting and from getting monotonous. For instance, there are blinking white lights to avoid, for they bring us down by two points. I believe there is a huge storm awaiting us on the final level, and that is making me tap as fast and as cleverly as I can to get there.

BATAK Duel has got fantastic graphics that make the game play a real pleasure. The OpenFeint feature also throws up a lot of achievements to be won, as well as the coveted number one spot on the global leaderboard. I like the opponent bit in this game; it fun battling with other players called Septana and Manchuda and more. This is what a real duel is all about; tough opponents in a sinister setting, and a matter of freedom and slavery hanging in the balance. And of course, quick lightning-like fingers and vision. A great game here by the people at DN Publications Ltd.
