This application could well become a little black book for us to refer to every time we need to go somewhere, because it helps us to find places to go to. FutureTap claims that Where To? – GPS points of interest is like a ‘traditional GPS device built right into our iPhone.’ We shall see if the application lives up to that claim.
The user interface is clean and friendly looking enough, and quite ingenuous too. The main interface opens up to display an old-fashioned dial-up phone interface, with the different categories making up the ‘numbers’ on it. There are eleven categories; Food & Drink, Entertainment, Travel & Transportation, Health & Medical, etc. Once we have chosen the category we are interested in simply by tapping on it, it takes us to a list of several sub categories again. For example, Food & Drink throws up options like Bakeries, Canadian, Ice Cream, etc. After we have zeroed in on our preference, we can call to make a reservation or check it out on the web viewer.
Selecting one of these categories leads to destinations which we can view either in Map or List mode. Where To also has three options for the Map feature; we can choose to view it in Map, Satellite or Hybrid modes. The destinations are shown as red points on the map. When we choose the List mode, it shows all the items in a list, and tapping on it further shows its location on a map.
The application can be used in nine languages, and it can be used anywhere in the world. We can also share any interesting places that we have found with our friend and family through email right from the application itself.
One cool feature about Where To is the Surprise Me option. If we are in a bit of an adventurous mood, or don’t want to bother looking for anything specific, choosing this option comes up with, well, a surprise destination.
Where To is a great application to have when we don’t have a clue where to go, and also when we want to find out somewhere new to go to. I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be shelling out $2.99 for it. It works well with Navigon MobileNavigator to make finding points of interest as easy as a tap away.
