Mine Blast on the iPhone is a real gem of a game

mine-blastGotta be careful while playing this game lest we get blasted off into oblivion. Mine Blast from Shane Guay is a unique puzzle where we have to gather gems in a mine by blasting the rocks. What we have in our hands are deadly explosives to carry out the mission. But we cannot place them just anywhere in the mine, but calculate our moves carefully so that we do not destroy the gems or fail to dislodge them.

There are 6 mines and over 200 pits to excavate, so we are going to get very wealthy playing Mine Blast. The excavation pit looks something like honeycomb cells. Our job is to place the explosives in the spaces next to the gems so that it receives just the right amount of blast power to extract it. Too strong an explosive, and it will be destroyed into pieces. Also, if it does not receive enough blast hits, it will simply remain there. There are different types of gems that require different amounts of hits. The yellow sapphires are easily dislodged by one blast hit, the blue topaz requires two, and the red rubies need three blast hits to get into our hands.

Once we have gathered all the gems in a pit, we can progress to the next one. It is possible to select and play any pit in an unlocked mine, but as the pits get progressively harder, it’s a better idea to complete them in order. What we need here is strategic skills as one wrong placement can foil the whole plan.

Mine Blast has colorful graphics and smooth game play. But I think its addictive quality lies in the fact that it takes grey matter to play it. I also like how the mines have been named after six out of the seven deadly sins; it is apt, don’t you think? Mine Blast is definitely a gem among the many puzzle games in the App Store.
