WordCrasher spells A-D-D-I-C-T-I-V-E on the iPhone

wordcrasherHere is another game to test if you are a true wordsmith. WordCrasher has been developed by Kevin Ng, and it is interesting to see what he has come up with for the iPhone and iPod touch, after having developed games for gaming consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS2. His 12 years of experience in the gaming industry show through, for I find WordCrasher to be a very well-polished and thought-out game.

The game play itself is enough to grip us, and is different from the usual humdrum way of dragging letters to form words. In WordCrasher, the letters are in the form of chips that fall down from the top onto the screen. We simply have to tap on the letters to put together a word. After selecting the letters, we can either choose the Tick tab on the right side of the screen to enter the word, or the Cross tab on the left to remove it.

And since bigger is better, we score more points when we are able to come up with longer words. We need to watch out that the letters don’t crowd up the screen when we are unable to form words, for that will boot us out of the game. However, in instances where we find that the letters are dropping too slowly for our liking, we can speed them up by swiping the chips in a downward motion.

WordCrasher comes with two game modes. We can choose to play the classic Marathon format, or go a little crazy with the Flood Panic mode, where water and buoyancy are added to spice up the game. Kevin Ng has used the natural accelerometer of the iPhone and iPod touch, so we can tilt our device to arrange the chips and delay them from filling up the screen.

The game is OpenFeint enabled, so that gives players the opportunity to widen their gaming experience and unlock achievements. WordCrasher has top-notch graphics, and coupled with the engrossing game play, it is in a class of its own. Plus it is on sale at 50% off for the first week till January 18th when it will revert to its original price of $1.99, so grab this great deal while it lasts. I’d say that you take a look at the game site too, for there is a chance that we could win an iPod touch. Fantastic!
