Mandy and Andy Renovating makes for a great story-reading session on the iPhone
Mandy and Andy Renovating is an animated children’s story book that is a lesson in care and friendship. To start with, there are two cute cats that are out to help their friend Hermie the Hermit repair his broken down cottage. Accompanying them are Uncle Tobias and Mortimer Mouse. Yup, you heard that right - cats and a mouse together on a mission.
But though he is a hermit, Hermie hasn’t been as secluded as he thinks he has been, for there are a ton of other animals who have taken up residence in his cottage. Uncle Tobias is the first to be startled when he climbs up to repair the roof only to find a nest of birds under the shingles. And guess who discovers all these creatures? None other than us, the readers. Mandy and Andy Renovating is makes story-reading an interactive experience as we can open flaps at various pages of the book to reveal the animals hidden in the cottage.
We can choose between the options of reading the story ourselves or having it read out to us. Either ways works quite fine. It gives us a further choice of three languages; English, French and Chinese. Although I cannot understand the two latter languages, it was fun listening to how it would sound in them.
Mandy and Andy Renovating has top-notch animation, very colorful and easy to use. To get to the next page or back, we simple need to use the arrow buttons. Tapping on the secret spots of the hidden animals is also all that is required to expose them. But you have to love the furry creatures; the grin on the moose’s face is adorable, to say the least.
Mandy and Andy Renovating is currently the best selling game in the Finland App Store. The story ends on a happy note, but to know how that happens, you will have to read it yourself. It is educational and fun, and makes developing reading skills for children so much more enjoyable.
