Apple Retorts to Android’s Increased Market Share Report

Now that the buzz about Android beating iPhone in terms of sales for the first quarter in the US has not yet settled, Natalie Harrison, Apple’s spokesperson made a rare comment against the survey today.

The NPD Group’s smartphone survey was based on over 150,000 completed surveys undertaken online each month in the US, of the first quarter of 2010. As per the survey results BlackBerry leads the market with 36 percent market share followed by Android at 28 percent and iPhone at 21 percent.

Harrison today retorted to the report saying, “This is a very limited report on 150,000 U.S. consumers responding to an online survey and does not account for the more than 85 million iPhone and iPod touch customers worldwide.”.

Well we do understand that the survey had its own restrictions in terms of being restricted to the US only and also 150000 might be a small figure to have an overall idea of the smart phone market but at the same time we need to consider that it was restricted only to the first quarter sales for USA only, which makes that 150,000 voice substantially stronger.

Also, iPod Touch isn’t a smart phone, so Harrison’s figure of 85 million is definitely not the correct figure to outweigh the survey.

While iPhone lovers like us would definitely like to see the iPhone sales grow ( and am sure it will , once iPhone 4 is launched), Apple would probably have to brush up a little on their defensive skills.
