iPhone app review: Cheers to a great game called iQuarters!

iquartersA success formula for developing games for the iPhone and iPad seems to be to bring much loved games to these platforms. The latest entrant to try this route is iQuarters from Incredible Technologies, Inc. This well known drinking game has just firmly launched itself on the iPhone today, and we don’t necessarily have to be in a tavern to enjoy it. It is actually like taking the tavern with us wherever we go. So cheers!

We can choose to play the game either in single-player or multi-player modes. Upto four persons can play in the multi-player mode. The mission in iQuarters is to get through the levels by flicking a quarter into a glass three times (all virtual, of course). We are allowed to miss 40 times before we are booted out of the game.

I felt like supergirl the first few levels because it seemed pretty easy. The euphoria lasted for the next few levels, and I was beginning to wonder whether I was programmed to win. And then the obstacles came in and got progressively tougher, and then I was fighting, or rather, flicking to save my coins.

iQuarters has two game strategies to offer; we can either go the safe route and choose only to score three shots in a level to get past it, or we can do dare-devil and try to score as creatively as possible. Here creative means ricocheting off objects like bottles, cell phones, bottles, etc. there are also different types of glasses to flick the quarters into. This mode is more rewarding, for we get bonuses; the more difficult the shot, the more our score piles up.

There is a leader board in the game to make it all the more challenging. An interesting bit is the replay feature where we can see our awesome shots played out for us. The graphics and physics in iQuarters make it so much fun and realistic. The 12 different scenes keep the game buzzing, and the trick shots add that extra bit of flavor. I think that iQuarters is an excellent example of iPad application development, and it is perfect to play anytime.
