We get to save the world, and we get to do it in the classic old style of Space Invaders. A retro arcade game doesn’t get much better than this deal, courtesy MeYuMe. Invaders World Tour takes us all over the globe from USA to France to Vietnam, battling all forms of enemies in our bid to save humanity.
The game controls are simple, and a quick look at the Help option briefs us on all that we have to do. To move our ship to wherever we want it to go, we simply have to tilt the screen. Shooting the enemies is even easier as we just have to tap on the screen. Besides the Help button, there are the Start, Settings and Credits buttons, which are pretty self-explanatory. One cool bit in the settings is the option for left-handed players.
We start off in the USA and as we clear the levels, we also keep progressing on to other countries, until we have saved them all. We can stop the game anytime by using the pause button, though I’d doubt we would want to stop once we start playing. So we shall leave that button for near-calamity situations.
We also do not remain stagnant in our fighting prowess, but can upgrade our ship and weapons. We need to look out for the balls of light that fall down when saucers explode, and shoot them to get our hands on the upgrades. In case our gun gets stuck in mid fire, we can shake the device to get it shooting again.
The graphics in Invaders World Tour are top-notch, and I have no complaints about it. I like how the background changes with every country with fantastic artwork. The game is OpenFeint integrated, and doesn’t leave us any short of challenges in the form of achievements.
Invaders World Tour stays true to the feel of the retro arcade classic, and yet manages to put its own spin on things. It is totally worth the $0.99 price tag it comes with, and also worth every minute we spend playing it.
