A federal court on Monday declared Nicholas Woodhams guilty of fraud and money laundering for tricking Apple to part with 9,000 iPod Shuffles. Woodhams took advantage Apple products' warranty program and apparently used bogus iPod Shuffle serial numbers and claimed 9,000 replacements without returning the originals.
Since Apple's replacement policy requires buyers to return the defective units, Woodhams created a pre-paid VISA to deal with that. When Apple tried to charge for the unreturned supposed defective units, the VISA card rejected the charges. The trick went well for Woodhams to extort 9,000 iPod shuffles.
