Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) the firm that advocates personal freedom related to technologies has submitted a request to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to make iPhone Jailbreaking legal. Public comments regarding the request are open till February 2, 2009 after which the Copyright Office will hold the hearings in California and Washington DC in spring 2009. The final ruling to the request is expected in October 2009. EFF in the request argues that jailbreaking gives users the freedom of running applications provided by other developers not necessarily approved by the phone maker.
