Recently Apple has put up a countdown page that displays the download of iPhone and iPod touch applications from the App Store. Application download is nearing one billion mark. The download rate per second is impressive, check out here.
The App Store launch is still shy of one year and this is an extraordinary feat for Apple. This is a sales stunt. The present display shows more than 933 million downloads. May be to celebrate the 10,000 apps mark and help the searchers in navigating through the mazes of the App Store, Apple has come up with a new idea for the holiday season. They have put up a new section at the iTunes that displays the top apps (in terms of popularity) of 2008 at the App Store. The top 120 apps are there. A small chunk of the 10,000 strong brigade.
