iPhone floodgate for South Korea is finally open following Korea Communications Committee's decision on Wednesday. The decision of the Committee ends the long practiced rule of imposing technical restrictions making it hard for outside cellphone makers to penetrate into South Korea. The rule was implemented to protect local cellphone manufacturers from outside competitors.
Over the years, the strategy made South Korea based Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Co. become the second and third largest cellphone makers respectively after Nokia, Corp. in terms of units produced. The regulation also successfully prevented entry of smartphones such as the iPhone and BlackBerry into Read More...
It has been a long long time since I read a great meaningless article. Thanks to David Coursey of PCWorld for posting an article titled "Apple's iPhone and iPod Monopolies must go." The write up accuses Apple for playing evil monopoly with their iPhone and iPod touch.
Has Apple directly or indirectly forced any one of you to purchase the iPhone or the iPod touch? No. We did that on our own whims and fancies. Most of us see butterflies the moment we hear about new Apple products. Mind you, Apple products never bring insomnia due to malfunctioning. They are always Read More...
The past few days I've been thinking what Apple would likely to do to keep Palm Pre out of iTunes. For now, the Pre is reported to be sitting so comfortably on iTunes. Thanks to Rubenstein's magic.
Apple is not likely to watch there as a mute spectator though. The first instinctive guess here is Apple would block iTunes access to the Palm Pre in future software updates. The how part is what we all don't know yet.
It's worth looking at what Palm has done to make the Pre act like Apple products. According to Johansen, the iPod had a specific Read More...
To clone is the way of smartphones makers. We reported about the cloning of the iPhone in China with a fancy name as Meizu. oPhone from Lenovo though is not a clone of the iPhone, something looks so familiar between the two and surprisingly the oPhone is rumored to be only for Chinese customers.
This time around, we found out that the iPhone is not the only juicy target of mobile cloners in China. Hong Kong based Nokla has successfully copied Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic. They have not spared even the slightest curve and tweaks of the original. Oh yeah, that Nokla Read More...
Nokia's move to compete Apple with their recently launched 5800 XpressMusic smartphone has become an empty threat with the company halting sales of the gadget over connectivity problem with AT&T network. Early and unlucky buyers of the neat touchscreen detected that the phone has issues getting 3G connection on AT&T network, which resulted in the halting of sales in the US.
Nokia launched their 5800 XpressMusic in February 25, 2009 in north America. In Europe, the device was launched in October, 2008 and sales there have crossed a million mark. 5800 XpressMusic is one device that many thought would be a Read More...
In hard times like this recession, it is risky for companies to experiment with innovative ideas. To replicate what has worked is always the safest path rather than spend a fortune in experimenting and find out later that the whole idea is a total flop. That is what analysts suggest. Buyers are also less open to untested gadgets when the pocket is near dry. The iPhone has been received so well and has accounted for more than 50% of smartphone sales, so smartphone manufacturers are in some way or the other replicating the features of the iPhone.
Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Read More...
On a very optimistic note I do want to charge my phone (iPhone) anywhere with any phone charger. It's a wild dream for now, but come January 2012, if what the 17 mobile operators and manufacturers' commitment comes true we'll see only one common charger for all mobile phones on this earth. At present, the concept is somewhat like one mobile one charger, which contributes to churning out more than 51 thousand tons of waste a year.
The companies committed to the cause of implementing Universal Charging Solution are AT&T, KTF, LG, mobilkom austria, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Read More...
In a rather surprising move Picsel Technologies, a Scottish IP firm has sued Apple for patent infringement of US patent titled, "Systems and Methods for Generating Visual Representation of Graphical Data and Digital Document Processing." The lawsuit is being filed in the District Court of Delaware.
Picsel in their statement claimed that scrolling and zooming functions in the iPhone and the iPod touch uses the set approximation value during the transition for which the patent is owned by the company. While zooming into certain objects in a device's browser, there is an estimation done through a scaled data approximation to know Read More...
Apple's App Store as a software distribution platform has made Smartphone makers realize that it is an ideal distribution system of all times. App Store has made life easy for both the users and the distributors of applications. We've heard that other companies are planning to launch the likes of App Store for distributing applications for their mobile devices.
Google, RIM, Palm, etc have plans to launch a platform for hosting applications for their devices. For Nokia, the arrangement to launch their App Store seems to be real and near. There is strong indication that Nokia would probably announce the launch Read More...
The total number of iPhone application in the App Store has crossed fifteen thousand. A staggering 4,381 are games. Tattoos have different meanings and implications for different people. For some, it is a way of beautifying the body, for some it is a modification ritual. Now, we have a new meaning to add to those old values. People have started using tattoos for ad campaigns for smartphones. Is this totally a new trend? Has this trend resulted in selling more smartphones? Read on to know.

According to a Computerworld report, 42% of all the U.S. traffic in November between the iPhone and world’s largest mobile ad network, AdMob, took place over the Wi-Fi. That beats the cellular data network of AT & T.
The AdMob metrics report suggests that this signals a new trend:
In the U.S., 8% of total requests in November were on Wi-Fi networks, up from 3% in August. [The] 42% of iPhone requests made on Wi-Fi networks [is] notably higher than most other Wi-Fi capable phones, which average between 10-20%.
The other trend to look into this is that the iPhone accounted for 51% Read More...
