USB-Forum rebuked Palm for letting the Pre sync with iTunes

USB-Forum rebuked Palm for letting the Pre sync with iTunes

Palm may no longer boast that their Pre syncs with the iTunes even if they are able to break the iTunes code again, if the company is going to take the verdict of USB Forum seriously. For Apple, that would mean battle won to keep their online store closed to all third party devices. When the Pre was launched, users were able to sync their device with iTunes to transfer media content on to their devices. Palm counted this as a special feature of the device, which angered Apple and the feature got disabled through a software update. Palm in the Read More...

Ideal ways to say the iPhone is GREAT! Microsoft and Sprint style

Ideal ways to say the iPhone is GREAT! Microsoft and Sprint style

Recently, Sprint's CEO Dan Hesse was asked whether Palm Pre is successfully competing with the iPhone. That was a very pointed question which could not be answered without stammering a bit. Dan did happen to stammer and responded something like, 'hmm, it's unfair to compare the two devices as they belong to separate categories.' The actual quote reads, "it's like comparing someone to Michael Jordan." So, Dan thinks that the iPhone is the Michael Jordan of smartphones, which is painfully true for Palm and other Apple competitors. Matter of fact is that the two devices belong to the same category called Read More...

Palm proposes, Google disposes

Palm proposes, Google disposes

Back in March, Roger McNamee made a wild prediction that in two months time most iPhone users would switch over to Palm Pre. Reasons cited for the mass exodus were; contract term with AT&T would expire and that Palm Pre would be a smarter phone than the iPhone.  June came and so also the launch of the Pre and the iPhone 3GS. The prediction turned topsy-turvy, more people signed up for the iPhone in spite of their love-hate feeling for AT&T. Seems the prediction was meant to be a publicity stunt rather than a serious one. Apple managed to sell a Read More...

Stop stealing my Apple into your Palm: Steve Jobs to Ed Colligan

Stop stealing my Apple into your Palm: Steve Jobs to Ed Colligan

Lately, there have been a lot of whispering about how Steve Jobs of Apple tried to persuade Ed Colligan of Palm to sign "Treaty of no cross recruitment," back in 2007. That was the time when Apple had successfully launched their first generation iPhone and Rubinstein jumped over to Palm from Apple.  The communication between the two would not have happened if Rubinstein had restrained from calling over others from Apple to join him at Palm. Colligan did the right thing in refusing to agree with Jobs' Proposal, citing that it'd be "Illegal" to have such an understanding between two future Read More...

Palm Pre Premium applications coming to App Catalog in mid-September

Palm Pre Premium applications coming to App Catalog in mid-September

A blend of bad and good news for Palm Pre users, the bad one first as you've chosen. Your days of downloading free games and applications via App Catalog are numbered. The good news now, Palm would be launching their long awaited App Catalog e-commerce beta in mid-September. Premium paid games and applications are on their way. Customers would have to use their credit cards to purchase those applications.  The company on Tuesday sent out invites to developers to join the beta test by  submitting their applications along with descriptions and other details.  For paid applications, Palm would retain 30% of the revenue Read More...

How to make your Palm Pre more clunky

How to make your Palm Pre more clunky

I know this write up is going to be an offbeat, nevertheless, it's good to take a wild plunge once in a while.  You all know that battery life of all smartphones do not last long if you are a heavy user. That's what we call smartphone dilemma. The iPhone 3GS, which Apple claimed is exceptional isn't an exception at all. You can't simply go hiking for days and expect the battery to last as long as you wish.  There, I am going offbeat again. Well,  if you are looking for ways to make your Palm Pre look more clunky Amzer has got Read More...

Even after 2 years, I am still using Apple’s iPhone

Even after 2 years, I am still using Apple's iPhone

Apple's iPhone is one of the best things that happened, which took us a step further into a technologically efficient and simpler world. It made most of us bid goodbye to Motorola Razr, BlackBerries, Windows Mobile, etc. That was two years back, and it seems long enough cos Apple has refreshed their iPhone two times since the launch of the first generation iPhone on June 29, 2007.  The introduction of the iPhone 3G and the App Store came in 2008 and it took us miles ahead of other smartphone users. The iPhone 3GS came in 2009 by which time the App Store has Read More...

Best Buy best Palm Pre Joke

Best Buy best Palm Pre Joke

Best Buy recently made the best mistake in years to tease Palm Pre fans. The retailer made a very brief announcement on their site that the Pre would be available just for $99 on a two year contract. Hmm $100 less than the usual selling price; something unusual for a device that is launched just a month ago.  There are photos to prove that this ain't a joke. Best Buy intentionally did what they did to make Palm Pre fans desperate to grab the device, through the bogus $99 offer. Or did anyone actually manage to purchase one paying only Read More...

Palm Pre back on iTunes with webOS 1.1

Palm Pre back on iTunes with webOS 1.1

Just a week after Apple released iTunes 8.2.1 and yanked the Palm Pre from its music, video and application store, Palm is back with a software update to play the software cat and mouse game.  Yes, Palm has just released webOS 1.1 that allows the Pre to enter iTunes from the backdoor enabling media sync again.  Apple released iTunes 8.2.1 with the note  "a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices." The release note of webOS openly says "you once again can have seamless access to your music, photos and videos from the current version Read More...

Palm Pre Soap: time to clean yourself

Palm Pre Soap: time to clean yourself

Want to tell your friends and co-workers that you use Pre, dream Pre, eat Pre and wash Pre? Grab this soap, shaped and carved exactly like the Pre for $7.99 to enrich your bathroom with the fragrance of the Pre.  Hold on! Isn't it a lil expensive for a soap? Who cares, if it makes you feel smile. The product description doesn't say you can slide out the keypad, so do not try that.  I think this would make a perfect gift to someone who is heart and soul Palm and Sprint. For those of you who are pro Apple, you still Read More...

PCWorld says Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch are monopolies

PCWorld says Apple's iPhone and iPod touch are monopolies

It has been a long long time since I read a great meaningless article. Thanks to David Coursey of PCWorld for posting an article titled "Apple's iPhone and iPod Monopolies must go." The write up accuses Apple for playing evil monopoly with their iPhone and iPod touch. Has Apple directly or indirectly forced any one of you to purchase the iPhone or the iPod touch? No. We did that on our own whims and fancies. Most of us see butterflies the moment we hear about new Apple products. Mind you, Apple products never bring insomnia due to malfunctioning. They are always Read More...

iTunes 8.2.1 released: Goodbye Palm Pre

iTunes 8.2.1 released: Goodbye Palm Pre

A new beginning for iPhone users and a tragic end for Palm Pre users is at hand. iTunes 8.2.1 is live and Apple has finally given its verdict.  Palm Pre can no longer sit comfortably on iTunes to add music seamlessly in the old fashioned way. Apple termed the yanking of the Pre as a bug fix. Here is the note: "iTunes 2.1  provides a number of bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices." Now, that is a real bug fix. Enough is enough Palm, do not boast anymore that your Pre is more musical with iTunes. Yap back Read More...
