PCWorld says Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch are monopolies

PCWorld says Apple's iPhone and iPod touch are monopolies

It has been a long long time since I read a great meaningless article. Thanks to David Coursey of PCWorld for posting an article titled "Apple's iPhone and iPod Monopolies must go." The write up accuses Apple for playing evil monopoly with their iPhone and iPod touch. Has Apple directly or indirectly forced any one of you to purchase the iPhone or the iPod touch? No. We did that on our own whims and fancies. Most of us see butterflies the moment we hear about new Apple products. Mind you, Apple products never bring insomnia due to malfunctioning. They are always Read More...

BlackBerry offer ends so also Blackberry sales

BlackBerry offer ends so also Blackberry sales

Victor said this right! It was Verizon and RIM's trick that made BlackBerry phones the #1 selling phone in the first quarter of 2009. If you have not heard about the trick, it was the "buy one get one FREE," offer on all BlackBerry phones. That was not a bad strategy, but a desperate one to lure smartphone freaks.  The offer has ended and so seems the sales record too. Lately, the iPhone 3GS has stolen the limelight with Palm Pre following. RIM shipped a record of 7.8 million units of BlackBerries in the first quarter and Apple just managed shipping Read More...

What would Apple do to yank Palm Pre from iTunes

What would Apple do to yank Palm Pre from iTunes

The past few days I've been thinking what Apple would likely to do to keep Palm Pre out of iTunes. For now, the Pre is reported to be sitting so comfortably on iTunes. Thanks to Rubenstein's magic.  Apple is not likely to watch there as a mute spectator though. The first instinctive guess here is Apple would block iTunes access to the Palm Pre in future software updates. The how part is what we all don't know yet. It's worth looking at what Palm has done to make the Pre act like Apple products. According to Johansen, the iPod had a specific Read More...

South Korea Telecom to replicate Apple’s App Store

South Korea Telecom to replicate Apple's App Store

App Store download is nearing a billion mark and all of us accept that Apple has done a great service to both customers and developers launching the online store. This is one stop for all to market and to purchase iPhone and iPod touch applications. The App Store concept is now being copied by many rival companies. BlackBerry App World of RIM, Microsoft has their own plan, Android application store and Palm also have the same plan to launch their own stores.  However, here is a new bold and rather strange replication, SK Telecom, one of the dominant mobile carriers in Read More...

RIM’s CEO indirectly admits BlackBerry Storm sucks

RIM's CEO indirectly admits BlackBerry Storm sucks

Not exactly, but in some way. In an exclusive interview done by Mobiles Solutions, RIM co-CEO RIM Mike Lazaridis revealed something about the prospects and future plans of the company, which you'll all love to read. One particular question and the corresponding response caught my attention this article is all about it.  The question irked Lazaridis, no doubt. It is related to the recall of the Storm after its first launch citing technical problems. Co-CEO Bassillie earlier cited the Storm as a "new reality" for the company in manufacturing smartphones. Yes, for RIM the Storm has been like an experiment with Read More...

Dell’s bit to enter smartphone business rejected by carriers

Dell's bit to enter smartphone business rejected by carriers

PC maker Dell's plan to enter smartphone business has been stalled for now. The company is not yet ready for the venture. Network carriers have rejected the move citing that the company has no distinguishable features and design models that  can attract smartphone users.  Shaw Wu of Kaufman Bros has this to say about Dell's stalled plan: "From our conversations with supply chain and industry sources, it appears that it ultimately came down to lack of carrier interest," Though  the company never did confirm that it is working on a smartphone, analysts predict tough competition with RIM's BlackBerry phones, Apple's iPhone and soon Read More...

App Store of Apple and and App World of RIM; a quick look

App Store of Apple and and App World of RIM; a quick look

RIM's App World is yet to be launched, but the structure, terms and conditions are all clear now; the company posted developers portal and Faqs recently. It's time to compare Apple's App Store and RIM's App World. Here is the quick look.  Distribution: iPhone app developers submit applications to Apple. There is some kind of confusing screening done to determine appropriateness of the content and intent of the application. Applications are finally deployed in the App Store if Apple finds the apps fulfill the required standards, else they are yanked into the application graveyard.  Developers now have the choice to  pick up Read More...

Universal Charging Solution (UCS) fruit of Mobile World Congress: Apple would not budge

Universal Charging Solution (UCS) fruit of Mobile World Congress: Apple would not budge

On a very optimistic note I do want to charge my phone (iPhone) anywhere with any phone charger. It's a wild dream for now, but come January 2012, if what the 17 mobile operators and manufacturers' commitment comes true we'll see only one common charger for all mobile phones on this earth. At present, the concept is somewhat like one mobile one charger, which contributes to churning out more than 51 thousand tons of waste a year.  The companies committed to the cause of implementing Universal Charging Solution are AT&T, KTF, LG, mobilkom austria, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Read More...

Obama Inauguration day: We’ll miss Bush, Bill, Jobs and Yang.

The day has come! Barrack Obama is finally going to replace George W Bush as the 44th President of the United States. We would now be in the hands of a less offensive, but tech savvy President. RIM, the maker of the BlackBerry series is about to lose someone who had been faithful to BlackBerry; the new president is restricted to use his BlackBerry for security concerns. Tim Cook is heading Apple in the Absence of Steve Jobs. Bill Gates was not there at the CES 2009 like the way Jobs skipped the Macworld Expo 2009. Yahoo finds replacement for its Read More...

To regain the diminished popularity of the Treo series, Palm has recently unveiled its Pre handset. According to Palm executives the new device will give users a new feel of web browsing and multi tasking experience. The device runs on a new operating system WebOS, which the company said is a breakthrough for the company to compete in the smartphone market.
