In hard times like this recession, it is risky for companies to experiment with innovative ideas. To replicate what has worked is always the safest path rather than spend a fortune in experimenting and find out later that the whole idea is a total flop. That is what analysts suggest. Buyers are also less open to untested gadgets when the pocket is near dry. The iPhone has been received so well and has accounted for more than 50% of smartphone sales, so smartphone manufacturers are in some way or the other replicating the features of the iPhone.

On a very optimistic note I do want to charge my phone (iPhone) anywhere with any phone charger. It's a wild dream for now, but come January 2012, if what the 17 mobile operators and manufacturers' commitment comes true we'll see only one common charger for all mobile phones on this earth. At present, the concept is somewhat like one mobile one charger, which contributes to churning out more than 51 thousand tons of waste a year.
The companies committed to the cause of implementing Universal Charging Solution are AT&T, KTF, LG, mobilkom austria, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Read More...
It is not yet absolutely certain since the guys concerned, Qualcomm, have not yet commented on anything. But as is the general norm in the blog-o-sphere, silence generally turns out to be true. So what’s the big news and big deal?
According to a report, the rumored iPhone nano is rumored to be run on Qualcomm chips.
Is it another rumor that will never see the daylight of truth? Highly unlikely, since Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group analyst Craig Berger has also said that some “industry sources” have told him that the iPhone nano will appear in the second half of 2009 and Read More...
According to a Computerworld report, 42% of all the U.S. traffic in November between the iPhone and world’s largest mobile ad network, AdMob, took place over the Wi-Fi. That beats the cellular data network of AT & T.
The AdMob metrics report suggests that this signals a new trend:
In the U.S., 8% of total requests in November were on Wi-Fi networks, up from 3% in August. [The] 42% of iPhone requests made on Wi-Fi networks [is] notably higher than most other Wi-Fi capable phones, which average between 10-20%.
The other trend to look into this is that the iPhone accounted for 51% Read More...
Something for the holiday session. Pay 50 bucks less and get a iPhone from the AT & T. What’s more, pay less also for the 16 GB model. Both the black or white models are available.
There is a tweak to the tale however. These are refurbished iPhones. And AT&T defines refurbished iPhones as:
Refurbished phones are previously owned devices that have been unused or lightly used and returned during the 30-day trial period. Each refurbished phone is independently quality tested and loaded with the latest software to meet current factory standards. Some refurbished iPhone 3G devices will have minor scratches.

Launch of the first generation iPhone:
June 2007 was the Apocalypse month for RIM, the maker of BlackBerry and other smartphone manufacturers. The iPhone was born, so to say anointed to bring change to the smartphone market. One year down the line, we saw the rebirth of the device, in the form of the iPhone 3G. We still remember how we walked into Apple Stores, carrying an iPod, a cell phone and a PDA and came out with a single device that perform all the functions of the devices once we carry around with great pride. Apple did something great.

More worries for Nokia as the sales of its Nseries phones tumble down because of the booming sales of the iPhone 3G. Sales prediction puts that Nokia's market share will come down in the summer quarter compared to spring. Here is an excerpt from Nokia desk:
Nokia's strategy is to take market share only when the company believes it to be sustainably profitable in the longer term, Nokia has not broadly participated in the recent aggressive pricing activity - as it believes that the negative impact to profitability would outweigh any short term incremental benefits to device unit sales.

The iPhone 3G has been cloned. That's the biggest news from China today--apart from the Olympics, of course. This is not a big deal actually. We know that cloning is a shadow that will haunt every successful device or gadget from any well-known manufacturers. Some of them--like the HTC Touch Diamond, and the Instinct--have the marketing dollars to be touted as rival products, and not as clones. And we've seen enough of that already, and more still is coming.
But we also expected the cloning of the iPhone 3G to happen sooner. After all, devices from Samsung, motorola, etc. were cloned Read More...
3G iPhone will be in our palms two weeks from now. At this stage, many attractive handsets are set to hit the phone market, possibly to let us reconsider our decision to purchase the 3G iPhone. This move on the part of the phone manufacturers is an attempt to compete with the iPhone, no doubt. Many of the announced handsets are touchscreen phones and have unique features, ranging from cool camera to standard gaming features.
Some of the good contenders in the race will be HTC Diamond, BlackBerry 3G, new handset from Samsung, and Garmin. In Australia, all these new Read More...
