Some bad things about the iPhone

Some bad things about the iPhone

Back in July, 2008 when the iPhone 3G was launched, Steve Jobs said that "software" is what makes the iPhone stand out from other smartphones. No one has any issue with this statement. However, it doesn't mean that the iPhone is a real "Jesus" phone as some bloggers prefer to call with no issues. The dos and don'ts in place while using the iPhone has made many iPhone lovers sick and tired. The latest move from Apple to make jailbreaking the device as illegal has invoked anger not only with users but with other competitors too. The battle would go Read More...

The iPhone vs the Sony PSP gaming war. Is there a shift in hendheld gaming devices from handheld consoles to smartphones?

With all the whiz, bang, pop and shining shimmer that come with 10,000 apps and nearly 2500 games at the App Store, the iPhone has emerged as a serious player in the world gaming. So much so that it has started drawing comparisons with specialized and established handheld gaming devices. It is true that the App Store has been flooded with free and low-priced games and their popularity and sheer number have already posed some serious challenges for the Sony PSP and the Nintendo. But does that really mean the iPhone is already a serious challenger for these established empires in Read More...

iPhone market share up by 327.5%

Even with recession threatening to turn into a depression, Apple Inc’s march towards glory and super-wealth shows no signs of slowing down. And all that, courtesy to the iPhone. According to the Gartner Research’s Smartphone sales report, the smash hit iPhone has propelled Apple’s worldwide smartphone market share to 327.5%. This also comes in the wake of a global slowdown in the smartphone market space. Globally, Smartphone Sales Reached Its Lowest Growth Rate With 11.5 Per Cent Increase in Third Quarter of 2008 This also puts the iPhone over all at number 3, behind Nokia's Symbian and RIM's Blackberry. Zune-based smartphone?

Zune-based smartphone?

It’s just one of those days where I keep running into satire—and it’s so annoyingly subtle that I’m not even sure it’s there. I just wrote about Apple’s “miserable weekend sales” in “Apple hatred at its worst!,” and now here’s another one. Chris Green at ITPro claims that Microsoft is planning a Zune-based smartphone. This is what he says: …such a device is in the works, which is great news as it would easily provide respectable competition to Apple’s iPhone. All the components are in place – Windows Mobile as the underlying OS, the Zune user interface for the front-end, tweaked and extended… Thankfully, Read More...

Apple vs RIM

Apple vs RIM

According to IDC, RIM has surged ahead while Apple has lost some of its  market share. On the face of it, this looks like a comeback from RIM, but there are other factors that explain this. RIM has been in the SmartPhone business for some ten years. In that time, they perfected the push email technology, created the handheld devices that used the technology, popularized the QWERTY keyboard, and also convinced users that this is what smartphones were supposed to be. No less (well, maybe at times) and certainly no more. Apple has taken exactly one year (still a few days to go, actually) to Read More...

Smartphone Sale: Blackberry in the lead for now.

Smartphone Sale: Blackberry in the lead for now.

The new report says iPhone sales dropped from 26.7% to 19.2% in the last quarter. Does this mean people don’t like the iPhone anymore? Not really. iPhone has been out of stock in most places, and in short supply elsewhere—after all, everyone is waiting for the launch of the long awaited 3G iPhone. Even with the drop in sale, iPhone races to the second place. Mind you, iPhone is just a year old phone, and considering how strikingly different iPhone is from all exiting phones, it is incredible that so many people have taken to it in a short time. Blackberry Read More...
